Staple Distribution Center

Capacity:
433 kilowatts, covering 74,000 square feet. The solar system is photovoltaic.
Noteworthy:

The largest solar power system in New England (according to article from 2007).

Impact:

The system has enough energy to produce power for 14% of the distribution centers power or 36 homes per year.

Future Plans:

By 2010 there will be a seven percent reduction in the companies carbon emissions.

History:

The funding company Connecticut Clean Energy Fund was created by by the Connecticut General Assembly and is administered by Connecticut innovations.

Funding:

The project cost was paid for through Connecticut Clean Energy Funding, which gave staples distribution a $1.7 million grant for the solar power project. SunEdi

Owner:
The project is owned by Staples Distribution Center.
General Notes:

The Killingly-based solar power installation, a 433-kilowatt DC commercial solar photovoltaic system, is 1 ½ times the size of a football field, covering nearly 74,000 square feet of roof space. The solar power system will have a measurable environmental impact and reduce annual carbon emissions equivalent to the amount produced by the average car driving 420,000 miles. The solar power system has the capacity to produce enough energy to cleanly power 14 percent of the distribution center or 36 homes per year.
